Natural Text Rewriter: a drafting aid

Paste a draft to explore alternative transitions, sentence openings, and everyday word choices. The result is a starting point for editing, not a final version.

How to edit responsibly

  • Check that the revision keeps the original meaning.
  • Remove phrases that do not fit your voice or audience.
  • Fact-check claims and cite the sources you used.
  • Read the final draft aloud before submitting it.

No rewriting tool can establish authorship or predict how a reader, teacher, or publication will evaluate a draft. Use your own judgment and follow the rules that apply to your work.

What this tool is, precisely

It is a rule-based rewriter, not a language model. It works by applying a fixed set of sentence-opening and transition patterns to your draft, entirely in your browser, with nothing sent to a server. That has two consequences worth stating plainly. It is fast and private. It is also not going to understand your argument, and it will not make a claim you did not make any more accurate.

The result replaces your draft in the same box, so the original is gone once you run it. Copy what you need before you start.

Standard Polish and Creative Flow

  • Standard Polish applies the smaller, safer set of changes. Reach for this when the draft is close to finished and you want the wording to settle without the argument moving.
  • Creative Flow reaches for a wider set of openings and transitions, which produces a more varied result and a larger departure from what you wrote. Reach for this when you are stuck on a flat opening, not when you are checking a proof.

One thing to watch: running it twice stacks phrases

Because each run adds openers to what is already in the box, a second pass on its own output can leave you with To be clear, as you can see, in my opinion…. If you want a different version, start again from your original draft rather than from the previous result. This is the single most common way to end up with text that reads worse than what you began with.

How to use the result responsibly

  • Check that the revision still says what you meant. A rewriter working on sentence patterns cannot tell whether a change altered your meaning.
  • Delete any phrase that does not sound like you. A transition you would not have chosen weakens the sentence rather than improving it.
  • Fact-check anything factual and keep your citations attached to the claims, not to the sentences around them.
  • Read the result aloud before you submit it. Broken rhythm is obvious in the ear and invisible on the screen.

What it cannot do for you

No rewriting tool can establish authorship, and none can tell you how a reader, a teacher, or a publication will judge a draft. This one works on wording and nothing else: it does not verify facts, does not check citations, does not follow a style guide, and does not adapt to a subject area. Treat the output as a first pass to edit, and follow the rules that apply to your own work.
